Racers Edge Motorsports & Viper
Return to the Rolex 24 at Daytona
After a 10 year absence, the Racer's Edge Motorsports team is bringing the Dodge Viper back to professional road racing in North America with a vengeance by competing in the 50th Anniversary edition of the grueling Rolex 24 Hour race at Daytona International Speedway. Recognized as one of the toughest and most prestigious sports car races in the world, the number 87 3 Dimensional Services Group Viper will go head to head against teams like Ferrari, Porsche and BMW and features star drivers from NASCAR, Indy Car and international sports car racing.
To make the Viper's return to competition even more intriguing, all fans at the Speedway are encouraged to stop by the Racers Edge Motorsports paddock area during the days leading up to the race to autograph the car. On race day, fans are welcome to autograph the car on the pre-grid before the start of the event. "All of us at 3 Dimensional Services Group & Racers Edge Motorsports are honored to play a key role in the return of the Viper, and we think that inviting the fans to autograph our car will increase the excitement surrounding the re-introduction of this iconic car," commented driver Doug Peterson. Peterson, who hails from Bonita Springs, Florida, added, "The Rolex 24 at Daytona is obviously a very long race, so anything can happen. I'm confident that we have the reliability to go the distance, so our game plan is to stay out of trouble during the early parts of the race, make clean pit stops and driver changes, and have a strong car towards the end of the race that can take us to the front of the field."
"I'm very proud to be representing Racer's Edge Motorsports, 3 Dimensional Services Group and the Viper brand at Daytona," commented team driver Jan Heylen, a native of Belgium who now resides in the Tampa Bay area. "The team has had a very busy off-season preparing our new Viper. With three successful pre-season tests behind us, we now know that we have the reliability we need to feature well in the race. We have a great driver lineup and team behind the program, so I'm feeling quite confident of earning a good result." Rounding out the driver line-up for this marathon is Tony Ave, Maxim Soulet and Emilio Valverde.
Peterson and Heylen will be very busy at Daytona, as they will also share driving duties behind the wheel of a Dodge Challenger, competing in the Continental Tire Sports Challenge Series as well. Added Heylen, "Doug and I will be getting quite a lot of racing this weekend, since we are partnering up in both the Challenger and the Viper.
The Rolex 24 at Daytona will be televised by the Speed Channel, with round the clock coverage of the classic endurance race beginning at 2:30 PM Eastern Time on Saturday, January 28th, 2012 to the race's finish twenty four hours later on Sunday afternoon.
